Today I shall write about the recent discovery of poison in Purina dog food. I will warn you that the topic is quite severe, but not without hope.
Purina’s chairman, Dick Hillis, says they remove the tainted batches from store shelves.
It is the worst (but not the first) food poisoning to be traced to dog food. In 1983, millions of cats and dogs fell sick, and at least 900 died in the United States after eating beef laced with poison.
The dog was called Layla, and she was found dead in a burnt-out car outside a pet hospital (the car was abandoned).
Wire reports say she believed she had been poisoned by eating chicken from Shake ‘n Bake. The bottle itself had been found in her stomach.

Poison in Purina dog food
Purina recalls three of its pet foods after minute traces of a rodent poison banned in the United States because of the harm it can cause to pets was found.
The tainted dog food included Purina One Smart Blends Homestyle Healthy Weight with Roasted Chicken and Vegetables dry dog food, Purina One Smart Blends Appetizers Vegetarian Entree With Real Turkey & Whole Barley dry dog food and Pro Plan Savor Adult Entrees medium/large breed dry dog food.
IN A NEWS RELEASE, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that the products were distributed to retailers in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The FDA said the contaminated food had been shipped to stores in California, but it did not say if any of those products remained on store shelves.
The recall includes the following products: 3-pound bags of Purina One Smart Blends Homestyle Healthy Weight with Roasted Chicken and Vegetables with a “Best Before” date of Aug.
What is Purina dog food?
Purina is a dog, and cat chow brand founded 74 years ago by the Ralston Purina Company. As the name suggests, the company began as a manufacturer of animal feed.
Owing to the high demand for their products, in 1894, they established a sales office in London, England. Their products grew steadily in popularity and were sold throughout Australia and many European countries by 1900.
Ralston Purina became part of Nestlé in the 1970s, although the Swiss food giant spun it off in early 2001 to form a joint venture with Del Monte.
It is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nestlé, based in St. Louis, Missouri. Purina has become the world’s largest pet food manufacturer (based on worldwide retail sales).
Its products are sold in over 150 countries and territories throughout North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
What is terrible about Purina dog food?
1. The amount of meat in the food is minuscule, to begin with.
2. The meat is of shallow quality, such as by-products and diseased animals.
3. The food also contains corn, wheat, and soy. They are fillers that pets cannot digest properly, resulting in malnutrition and obesity. Soy is especially bad for animals because it contains phytoestrogens, disrupting all living creatures’ endocrine function.
4. It has tiny nutrients that pets genuinely need, and the nutrients in there are not available for absorption.
5. The food is artificially flavored and dyed to make it more attractive to pets. Many of these dyes have been banned by countries worldwide due to their toxicity.

6. Finally, pet food contains many other chemicals that can harm your pet’s health over time – colors, preservatives, artificial flavors, and so on.
Because of the large amounts of fillers and other harmful ingredients, Purina dog food causes many serious health problems in pets.
Is there poison in Purina dog food?
Yes. The poison is Barium sulfate, a dangerous chemical that can harm dogs and cause serious illness when eaten.
The poison was called Monosodium glutamate, a dangerous chemical that can harm dogs and cause serious illness when eaten.
Purina recalled several dog food brands after discovering that minute traces of a rodent poison had been found in some products.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the tainted dog food included Purina One Smart Blends Homestyle Healthy Weight with Roasted Chicken and Vegetables with a “Best By” date of Aug.
Is Purina a good dog brand?
There are many reasons to avoid Purina. The quality of the dog food is awful, and there may be poison in it, as recent reports have shown.
One interesting thing you may have noticed about these ads is that the animals look healthy and happy (as a matter of fact, they look almost too healthy, like stuffed animals).
This is a common theme in Purina ads, and it leads us to an essential conclusion: nearly all of the animals in these adverts are starving or dead. The animals in Purina pet food ads are dying due to malnutrition and poisoning.
What is the best vet recommended dog food?
Many veterinarians recommend Hill’s Prescription Diet, Ultimate Health, and Science Diet.
But these are not the only good dog foods. Omega-3-rich kibble is another healthy option for your pet.
Dog food usually contains protein, fat, and carbs (trace elements such as vitamins and minerals may also be added). Some formulas may also contain minerals such as calcium carbonate or calcium phosphate for health maintenance and phosphoric acid (a preservative), corn gluten meal, and soy flour as additives.
